As teachers, we know that social-emotional learning is SO important. And, it’s more important now than it’s ever been. With all the unknowns, changes, and anxieties that come along with the pandemic, it’s up to us to make sure we are checking in with our students so that we can better support them socially and emotionally.

The Problem

Even though we know that frequently checking in with student’s emotions is important, it’s still hard to carve out time in our busy days to do it. In the distance learning setting, it’s also not usually possible to talk to students one-on-one – and students don’t always want to open up in front of their peers.

What we need is a quick and easy way to check in with students, and provide a safe and private platform for them to share their challenges and struggles.

The Simple Solution – Used in over 200 classrooms!

To solve this problem, I created a quick and simple SEL check in Google Form. This editable SEL check in Google Form is the perfect way to check in with students as often as you want.

Tell Me More About the SEL Check In Form

First, students select how they are feeling with a choice of: Happy, excited, okay, anxious, mad, or sad.

Then, the form automatically takes them to a section based on how they are feeling. It provides a statement that validates their emotion, and gives them the opportunity to explain why they are feeling the way that they are.

For certain emotions, like anxious and mad, the form also provides some coping skills suggestions to help students calm down and self-regulate.
