Hint: All it takes is a leprechaun!
There are only two weeks left until spring break, but time seems to be crawling by. My kids are a little burnt out, and they are starting to get bored of the same routines. We are all ready for a little excitement. Something new and fresh!
Enter – Our class leprechaun!
For the two weeks leading up to spring break, everything became St. Patrick’s Day themed! Our daily editing sentences were about St. Patrick’s Day, and had fun themed clip art. Our expository essays turned into essays about finding pots of gold, luck, and four-leaf clovers.
But, it wasn’t just our instruction that was themed. Our class leprechaun would travel to a new place in the room every night, and he’d also leave little notes and treats on the student’s desks for them to find in the morning! This is what really brought the whole thing to life, and what got the kids engaged and excited.
If you want to implement this in your classroom, you can grab everything you need to turn your upper elementary writing instruction into a magical St. Patrick’s Day theme! And, you can get it all with no prep needed and digital! Feel free to add any leprechaun elements you want. Simply printing a leprechaun and having him move around the room each day would be enough to get the kids excited. If you want to take it a step further, you could have the leprechaun leave a note for the whole class. Or, if you really want to go all out, go for it! You can do as little or as much as you want with this. Just have fun!
