Check out the pictures below to see what this fun room transformation looked like. Then, I give you a list of things to prep so that you can easily implement this in your own classroom!

After covering desks with some grey butcher paper, I set out a patient chart for kids to track their scores, a syringe pen, and a doctor’s badge.
I created a “Medical School” table so I could pull small groups to review skills of high need.
And, to sum it all up – each student got a certificate!

Want to create this transformation in your classroom? Here’s a list of things to prep!

Must Haves:

  1. The Content – This is the most time consuming part, the rest is all fun! I created quizzes on Google Forms and titled them according to the different body parts they were “performing surgery” on (ex. Brain surgery, right hand surgery, etc.). Then, I linked the quizzes to a Google Slides presentation so they were easy to access.
  2. The Patient Chart – Create either a print or digital way for kids to track their progress and/or their scores. I guess this part could be optional, but I found it to be a great way for students to stay organized.

The Fun Stuff – Choose any or all of the things from the list below to really set the scene!

  1. Doctor’s Badges for the kids
  2. Signs to set the scene
  3. Butcher paper or blue tablecloths to cover tables / desks
  4. Pens that look like syringes (super affordable on Amazon!)
  5. Masks and gloves
  6. Scrubs for you to wear
  7. A video of a heart rate monitor to project during the surgeries
  8. Certificates to give the kids for successfully completing their surgeries

This surgery room transformation was a super fun and engaging way for us to prep for the state writing test. And one of the best parts, aside from seeing the kids engaged and enjoying learning, was getting to wear scrubs!
