Allow Time for Students to Socialize
One thing that virtual students are really missing out on this year is interaction with their peers. A virtual Valentine’s party is the perfect time to let students interact and socialize with each other. Sometimes, that’s really all they need!
Incorporate Digital Games and Activities
There are some AMAZING resources on TPT for virtual Valentine’s party games, escape rooms, scavenger hunts, directed drawings, and more! If you’re not ready to spend money on resources for just one day, click the “free” filter!
I love incorporating meaningful academic-related activities that are Valentine’s themed. I find that the kids are more engaged when an activity aligns with a holiday or theme, and I feel good that we used our time for something academically beneficial!
I put together a fun Inferencing with Pictures activity to use during my Valentine’s Day festivities! Because I have students both online and in-person, I made sure to make this in formats that work for both! I created a printable PDF version that I’ll print for my in-person students. And, I also included two digital formats – PowerPoint and Google Slides – to make it easy for my online students to join in on the fun! Click here or the photo below to get this resource for free!
Have Fun & Go With the Flow!
Most importantly, just have fun with it! Technology issues? That’s okay! The kids won’t remember the bumps along the way, they’ll remember that their teacher took the time to celebrate and connect with them during this uniquely challenging year.
Don’t be too hard on yourself. You don’t have to make this extravagant. You don’t have to put Valentine’s bags, activities, or treats together and deliver them to your students. All you have to do is show up, smile, and provide a safe space for students to enjoy each other’s company!
