To work, or not to work. Working during your lunch break is a controversial issue for some teachers. Some feel very strongly that you shouldn’t work, while others work through their lunch every day. What are your thoughts on the topic?
Personally, I work during my lunch break on most days. I’m going to tell you why. But let me make it clear – I do eat lunch every day, I just also use that time to get some work done too.
- Getting things done during my lunch break allows me to leave at the end of my contract hours, and to leave most – if not all – of my work at school.
- It allows for a better work-life balance.
- It keeps me on top of my to-do list so I don’t get overwhemed.
- Lastly, it comes down to this – I am not good at taking breaks, sitting around, or doing nothing. I always need to be doing something, working on something, or organizing my room. If I have an item on my to-do list, something on my mind that needs to get done, or inspiration for a new activity or idea, I use my lunch to tackle those things. Then, I don’t have to think about it anymore, or remember to do whatever it is that needed to be done.
I think the ideal position on this issue is a balance of both – working during your lunch on some days, and collaborating with peers or chatting with teammates on others. They both have value, and they are both important. At the end of the day, you’ll find what works best for you. Leave me a comment telling me your thoughts on this topic!
